Michael Brown
Michael Brown (b. 1965, Montreal, Canada) is a Toronto-based visual artist working primarily in Painting, Installation and Performance. Brown embraces a low carbon footprint approach to art making and in so doing plays with contemporary ideas about excessive consumption in North America. By opting for abandoned materials indigenous to the area he is working, Brown comments on the culture, use and make up of public space.
Since 2005 Michael’s environmental installations/projects have raised questions about the value we place on our architecture and history. Through his environmental projects and their use of natural materials and processes Brown seeks to challenge the traditional definitions of urban and rural areas.
His work has been exhibited in galleries and in public spaces across Canada, South America and Mexico.
Michael Brown’s work has been generously supported by the Toronto and Ontario Arts Councils.
